Job Overview
An experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon is sought to join an independent, RCVS‑accredited small animal hospital in Bridgend, South Wales.
The role offers a mix of first‑opinion caseload, emergency work, surgical procedures and mentoring of less experienced colleagues, with opportunities to shape the position around your interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultations, surgery, inpatient care and emergency services.
- Support the on‑call team as a senior back‑up or work the first‑on‑call rota.
- Mentor recent graduates and contribute to teaching and case discussions.
- Handle administrative duties and enjoy protected lunch breaks.
- Workload & Schedule
- First‑on‑call role: 5‑day first‑on‑call position with a 7‑night rota, 7 recovery days, plus 2 weekend morning shifts in an 11‑week cycle.
- Senior back‑up role: 4‑day week (8‑hour shifts), with one fourth of weekend mornings caring for inpatients and one fourth of second on‑call duties.
- Accommodation available for first‑on‑call vets if required.
Qualifications
- Experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon with confidence in varied clinical settings.
- Ability to mentor and develop less experienced veterinarians.
- Commitment to maintaining high clinical standards in a team environment.
Benefits & Compensation
- Competitive salary: £40,000 to £65,000, depending on experience and responsibilities.
- 33 days of holiday (additional days can be purchased).
- Five days of CPD with a £1,500 allowance.
- Enhanced funding for Advanced Practitioners and coverage of RCVS, VDS and additional professional membership fees.
