Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) - Fixed Term Opportunities

My client is currently offering two fixed-term Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) positions at its Epping Hospital. These roles are available on a 12-month maternity cover basis and involve full-time hours of 40 per week, with salaries starting from Β£29,000 per annum depending on experience.

These positions have been created to support the hospital during the temporary absence of two Lead Nurses. As such, they provide an excellent opportunity for experienced RVNs to step into roles with increased responsibility, gaining valuable exposure to leadership within a well-established and progressive veterinary environment.

This is a busy hospital in Epping alongside several branch practices. The hospital holds ISFM Silver Cat Friendly accreditation and is equipped with advanced facilities including CT and MRI imaging, laparoscopy, endoscopy (both rigid and flexible), ultrasonography, dental x-ray, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory. The clinical team includes a number of highly experienced professionals, including certificate holders, all working within a supportive and collaborative environment that prioritises high standards of patient care and professional development.

The successful candidates will be confident and capable RVNs who can quickly integrate into the team and take on additional responsibilities. During the maternity cover period, they will support the wider hospital team in the absence of Lead Nurses and may take ownership of specific clinical or operational areas such as stock management, laboratory processes, dentistry, or other focus areas aligned with their experience. The role also involves mentoring student nurses, working closely with senior leadership, and contributing to the overall efficiency and standards of the nursing team.

Working patterns include a mixture of early, late, and occasional twilight shifts, along with participation in a 1 in 6 weekend rota at the hospital, with time off in lieu provided. There is no out-of-hours requirement, as a dedicated night team is in place.

Applicants must be RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurses. While candidates with at least one year of post-qualification experience are preferred, strong applicants with less experience will also be considered. Previous experience as a clinical coach or in a supervisory capacity would be advantageous. The ideal candidate will be proactive, team-oriented, and possess strong communication skills, with an interest in gaining leadership experience without committing to a formal Lead Nurse position.

The role offers strong support for professional development, including funded external CPD, access toin-house CPD programmes, and opportunities to gain experience in hospital-level nursing and specialist services. Although these are fixed-term roles, there may be potential for permanent opportunities in the future.

Flexible working arrangements are available, with options including four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days per week.

In addition to a competitive salary, the positions offer a comprehensive benefits package. This includes five weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays and an additional birthday leave day, payment of RCVS and VDS fees, funded CPD with allocated days, a contributory pension scheme, life assurance, enhanced sickness and family leave policies, and access to salary sacrifice schemes such as electric car leasing and cycle to work. Employees also benefit from staff discounts, a benefits hub, and a range of wellbeing support services, including an Employee Assistance Programme, eyecare vouchers, and annual flu vaccinations.
