We are currently recruiting a Production Shift Manager for our 2pm-10pm shift at our Shadsworth bakery in Blackburn. You will lead and develop an Operations Shift, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient order fulfilment, with a focus on health and safety, product quality, cost control, and team engagement.

Who are we looking for?

  • Background in food production management.
  • Ability to coach and lead as well as manage.
  • Ability to engage Direct Reports as well as train and develop them.
  • Open, honest, and respectful relationships with all colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a wider Manufacturing Team, including NPD and support functions.
  • PC Literate (MS Office, TROPOS).
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility – to meet the demands of the role.

The role of Production Shift Manager (2pm-10pm)

  • Ensure the Shift and people conform to SHE legislation, policies, and standards.
  • Take a pro‑active approach to the reduction of accidents, risks, and hazards in the factory to create a safe working environment.
  • Deliver an accident rate reduction by reporting all accidents.
  • Raise near misses and close hazards.
  • Ensure pre‑start‑up paperwork compliance with all issues reported.
  • Risk assessments reviewed and up to date.
  • Ensure all product released meets Food Safety and Quality standards and legislation.
  • Ensure the Team are compliant in traceability, document control and completion.
  • Ensure the Team is operating to specifications set.
  • All products released are to QAS standards.
  • Audit/Complaint scores to target.
  • Paperwork compliance.
  • Audit/Visit ready.
  • Traceability compliance.
  • GMP audit scores to target.
  • Effectively manage controllable costs of labour, raw materials, and waste.
  • Ensure stock accuracy.
  • Labour to budget.
  • Out‑of‑date material costs.
  • Raw materials/packaging variance to budget.
  • Waste within budget.
  • Deliver the production schedule on time in full.
  • Drive the performance of the line across OEE, waste, weights, and operational downtime.
  • Reduce line downtime.
  • Effective reporting of line performance and variances against target at performance reviews.
  • Effective relations with the Engineering Department to ensure prompt corrective actions and closeout of issues.
  • Effective shift handovers and plant walk rounds.
  • Lead, motivate, train, and develop the Team to deliver Business requirements.
  • Ensure the Team consistently adheres to all policies and procedures.
  • Support SM in developing a succession plan for the Team.
  • Team compliance to mandatory training.
  • Delivery of Team briefs.
  • Has a nominated successor for the role.
  • Performance/absence management in line with Company Procedures.
  • Engage the Team through recognition.
  • Develop a CI culture within the Team, always looking for ways to positively impact on the business.
  • Continuous Improvement Project ownership and completion.
  • Initiate Root Cause Investigations and drive follow‑up actions.
  • Positive trends in KPIs for Safety/Quality/Cost/Delivery metrics.
