The Role
The Able Seaman (AB) on a Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of personnel and light cargo to and from offshore installations, such as wind turbines. The AB supports the vessel’s navigation, deck operations, maintenance, and safety procedures under the direction of the vessel’s Master.
Principal Responsibilities
- Perform deck operations including mooring and anchoring
- Assist in the safe transfer of crew and technicians to offshore platforms and wind turbines
- Operate and deploy counter pollution equipment
- Form part of a mooring and anchoring party
- Operate deck machinery when suitably trained or qualified
- Ship husbandry tasks
- Assist with refuelling, loading, and unloading of cargo and supplies

- STCW Personal Survival Techniques
- STCW Basic Fire prevention and Firefighting
- STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities
- STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
- STCW Security Awareness
- STCW Designated Security
- Elementary First aid aboard ships
- Navigational Watch Rating Certificate
