The Role
The Master is in overall command of the vessel and day-to-day liaison with the customer.
Full authority and responsibility for taking all necessary actions for safety, pollution prevention and efficient operation of the ship.
In certain situations, this may mean deviation from documented procedures.
Responsible for leading a team of people which involves both engagement and development through the Company Values, Behaviours and Performance Framework.
Building effective relationships with external stakeholders to instil trust and confidence in the Company.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture – "Safe Out, Safe Home"
- Ensure all work is conducted in full compliance with Company Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, associated site safety regulations and good industry practice.
- Be proactive with the Company Safety Management System and demonstrate safe working practices during all working activities.
- Ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel onboard during watch by understanding and ensuring compliance with relevant Company’s safety guidelines and procedures.
- Continually reviews and upholds the operational efficiency, morale and welfare of crew.
- Identifies and understands client needs and acts accordingly.
- Follow Company Procedures in the event of a breakdown, accident or incident causing damage to the vessel, pollution or damage to a third-party structure or ship.
- Issue "Standing Orders" to the crew for the efficient operation of the ship.
- Ensures that all records kept onboard and those submitted to the Operations and Technical Departments are completed neatly and accurately.
- The Candidate
- RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Commercially Endorsed – minimum for CAT2 Workboats).
- Training according to STCW Regulations.
- Proven track record of working on small vessels.
- Advanced knowledge of operational processes of vessels and equipment.
- Experience of safety management systems and occupational health and safety regulations and legislation.
- Knowledge of fleet management systems.
- Ability to find solutions to problems, initiates activities and takes the lead. Proactive introducing proposals and ideas.
- ENG1 Medical.
- Complete MOD security clearance (must be resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years)
- Full UK driving licence.
- Live within the vicinity of the Plymouth Base.
