The Role involves the Ships Second Engineer having responsibility for taking all necessary actions for safety, security, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the ship under the direction of the Chief Engineer.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe operation and maintenance of the ship’s machinery
  • Fulfil requirements as required under the Planned Maintenance schedule
  • Bunker operations with Chief Engineer
  • Maintenance of Counter Pollution and Deck equipment as appropriate
  • Engine room watch keeper
  • Assisting the Chief Engineer as required testing stand-by systems on a regular basis and in accordance with Company and regulatory procedures
  • Comply with pollution prevention requirements
  • Maintain inventory of Mechanical spares
  • Assist with deck operations as required by the Master
  • Form part of the vessels Emergency team
  • Take control of Engine room fire parties
  • Organise and manage seamen when working in the Engine room
  • Maintain Oil record book and Engine room logbook
  • Undertake training as required to comply with Company regulations and legislative requirements

Certificates:

  • COC required 2nd Engineer, STCW III/3, < 3000 kW
  • STCW Advanced Firefighting and Fire Prevention
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival craft and rescue boats
  • STCW Medical care on board ships certificate
  • STCW Personal safety and Social responsibility certificates
  • STCW Security Awareness
  • STCW Designated Security Duties
  • Enclosed Space training
