Contract: Permanent

Location: Dewsbury

Forkway is one of the UK’s leading materials handling solutions providers, employing around 100 people across three Handling Centres and a network of strategically located service centres nationwide.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the proactive maintenance, repair, and servicing of HYG equipment and other associated products across both customer and company-owned fleets. The role focuses on maximising equipment uptime and operational availability by diagnosing faults, identifying root causes, and delivering safe, effective, and cost-efficient repairs. You will ensure all equipment remains reliable and compliant, minimising downtime and supporting customers with a high standard of technical service.

The Impact you will have:

  • Attend customer sites to assess equipment issues, determine the scope of work required, and agree repair priorities with the customer while ensuring all health, safety, and environmental procedures are followed.

  • Maintain regular communication with both the customer and service controller throughout the repair process, providing clear updates on progress, expected completion timescales, and any associated costs.

  • Diagnose faults efficiently, identify root causes of breakdowns, and source the correct parts in the most cost-effective manner. Utilise all available technical resources, including manufacturer information and specialist technical support teams, where necessary.

  • Carry out maintenance, repairs, and inspections in line with engineering best practice, company standards, and manufacturer specifications to ensure the highest quality of workmanship.

  • Conduct thorough quality checks on completed work, ensuring equipment is fully operational, safe, and fit for purpose before returning it to the customer.

  • Identify additional repair, maintenance, or service opportunities and communicate these clearly to customers, helping to maximise equipment reliability while supporting business revenue growth.

  • Accurately complete all job cards, inspection reports, and service documentation, ensuring records are up to date and all required customer approvals and signatures are obtained.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service, acting as a professional ambassador for Forkway while building strong relationships with customers and supporting their operational requirements.

What will help you to excel in this role:

  • Relevant engineering or technical qualification, ideally within mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic disciplines.
  • Proven experience in a field service, maintenance, or workshop engineering role, preferably within the materials handling, plant, construction, or industrial equipment sectors.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems, with the ability to diagnose and resolve faults effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise workloads to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Customer-focused approach, with the ability to build positive relationships and understand customer needs.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills, with a methodical approach to identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, enabling clear interaction with customers, colleagues, and internal support teams.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the designated service area.

What you can expect from us:

  • 40-hour working week, providing a healthy work-life balance.
  • Enhanced overtime rates, paid at 1.5x Monday to Saturday and 2x on Sundays.
  • Company vehicle provided, with the option for private use (subject to applicable tax regulations).
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities, supporting professional growth and career progression.
  • Competitive contributory pension scheme, with employer contributions.
  • 25 days’ annual leave, plus statutory public holidays.
