We have an excellent opportunity for a mechanical services design engineer with proven work experience to join the Briggs and Forrester Living design team based at our head office in Northampton. The role will include working on a range of residential projects including high rise residential developments, student accommodation and hotels. Working in a vibrant fast paced environment, we are looking for the right candidate who is adaptable and eager to work within a dedicated team.
Responsibilities
- Develop designs from various stages through to BSRIA Stage 6.
- Work with our estimating team to assist with the production of tenders for design and build projects.
- Work with our BIM team to assist in the development of spatially coordinated 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Work with our project teams to assist through installation and commissioning phases, up to project handover.
- Ensuring designs comply with both employers and statutory requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety standards, CDM regulations, environmental legislation and quality standards.
- Liaise and interface with specialist sub-contractors employed by Briggs and Forrester Living.
- Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure the correct application of plant and equipment.
- Actively participate in internal and external meetings, both in person and remote.
- Ability to propose alternative design solutions where appropriate and to the benefit of a project.
- Monitor and record progress on design projects including production of design progress reports.
- To be open to learning new skills and techniques including Continual Professional Development and any role specific training.
Requirements
- Demonstrate a comprehensive technical knowledge of all aspects of mechanical and public health services design.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to promote a ‘right first time’ focus.
- Ability to problem solve and address potential problems and challenges as they arise through a design process.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Building Safety Act and the requirements to deliver compliant systems in Higher Risk Buildings.
- Demonstrate a commercial awareness to ensure designs are developed in accordance with cost plans and budgets.
- Ability to work on multiple projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals including developers, architects, structural engineers, consultants and main contractors / sub-contractors.
- Work as part of a team with personal skills to promote good relationships and a friendly working environment.
- Demonstrate clear and concise communication both internally and externally.
- Demonstrate good organisation and time management skills.
- The candidate should hold a minimum level 4/5 qualification that focuses knowledge on relevant building services engineering disciplines.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies would also be preferable.
