Job Title: Commercial Van Hire Controller Department: Short Term Hire Reporting To: Short term hire Manager Briggs Equipment Group is a leading provider of material handling, powdered access, plant and specialist rental equipment offering new and used sales, short and long-term hire, engineering services, training and asset management. Job Purpose To manage the day-to-day operation of a commercial van hire fleet, ensuring the efficient allocation, utilisation and return of vehicles while delivering excellent customer service. The role involves coordinating hire bookings, supporting customers throughout the hire cycle, managing vehicle availability, and accurately processing customer recharges for damage, fuel, excess mileage, repairs, fines, and other applicable costs. This role combines commercial van hire administration, customer support, fleet coordination, and customer recharge management to ensure a smooth and profitable rental operation whilst maintaining excellent customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Vehicle & Fleet Management Manage commercial vehicle hire reservations from enquiry through to vehicle return. Monitor fleet availability and maximise vehicle utilisation. Coordinate vehicle deliveries, collections, and exchanges. Ensure vehicles are prepared, roadworthy, compliant, and available for hire. Maintain accurate hire records and fleet management systems. Liaise with workshop and transport teams regarding vehicle maintenance schedules and repair requirements. Customer Support Act as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the hire period. Respond promptly to customer enquiries via telephone, email, and in person. Provide professional advice on vehicle availability, contract terms, and hire products. Resolve customer issues and complaints efficiently whilst maintaining positive customer relationships. Support customers with documentation, contract amendments, extensions, and vehicle exchanges. Customer Recharges & Administration Review vehicle off-hire inspections and identify rechargeable costs.
