Hire Controller , you will play a key role in driving the success of our Short-Term Hire business. You will be responsible for quoting, securing, and coordinating the hire of materials handling, access, cleaning, and ancillary equipment for both existing and prospective customers. Acting as a central point of contact, you will deliver exceptional customer service, build strong customer relationships, and ensure hires are managed efficiently from initial enquiry through to completion, contributing to the continued growth and profitability of the business. The Impact you will have: Handle all customer enquiries promptly and professionally via telephone, email, and other communication channels. Process and manage 200+ on-hire and off-hire transactions per month, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Take responsibility for the accurate and timely invoicing of all hire transactions. Maximise operational efficiency by utilising the most suitable assets and sourcing equipment from the optimum location. Generate a minimum of two customer appointments per month for the STH Sales Manager from the existing customer base. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through effective communication with both internal teams and external customers. Manage internal hire requests to support both sales and operational requirements. Create hire agreements and coordinate the allocation and location of assets. Arrange transport and workshop PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspections) for all STH hires. Prepare, issue, and proactively follow up on hire agreements with customers. Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Sales Team to support customer retention and business growth. Prepare, issue, and actively follow up on customer quotations. Identify and communicate sales opportunities and lost business leads to the Business Development Team. Work within bespoke trading agreements for key customers, specialist markets, equipment types, and other commercial arrangements. Support customer satisfaction surveys and feedback activities to ensure the STH offering remains competitive and aligned to market expectations. Manage and escalate customer concerns professionally, ensuring timely resolution. Work towards targets and objectives set by the STH Sales Manager. Ensure all reporting, record-keeping, filing, and administrative duties are completed accurately and within agreed timescales. Continuously contribute to improving customer experience, operational efficiency, and business performance. What will help you to excel in this role: Excellent communication skills with a confident and professional telephone manner. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise a busy workload effectively. Self-motivated, proactive, and driven to achieve and exceed performance targets. Good knowledge of mechanical equipment, ideally within the materials handling, access, cleaning, or ancillary equipment sectors. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with the ability to learn and utilise business systems effectively. Previous experience within a heavy equipment, capital equipment, rental, sales, or trade desk environment. A collaborative team player who supports colleagues and contributes positively to team success. Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound cost-benefit decisions that deliver value for both the customer and the business. Customer-focused approach, demonstrating a commitment to delivering excellent service at all times. Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond effectively to customer requirements and operational challenges. High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling quotations, contracts, invoicing, and administrative tasks.
