An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Civil Engineer to join a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in West Yorkshire. You will work across a varied portfolio of residential, commercial and development-led projects, contributing to the design of drainage, SuDS, highways, earthworks and external infrastructure. The position offers genuine responsibility for defined design packages, direct involvement with clients and local authorities, and structured support towards professional qualification with the ICE. It is ideal for an engineer who is developing technical independence and is ready to take greater ownership of project delivery.

As Civil Engineer, you will support the design and successful delivery of civil engineering and development infrastructure projects. Working closely with Project Managers, senior engineers and technicians, you will prepare calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports across drainage, SuDS, highways, levels and earthworks. You will also liaise with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders, helping to ensure projects are delivered to the required programme, budget and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake feasibility, concept and detailed design for civil engineering projects
  • Prepare drainage, SuDS, highways, levels, earthworks and external works designs
  • Produce engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports
  • Develop practical, sustainable and cost-effective design solutions
  • Consider buildability, risk and whole-life performance throughout the design process
  • Apply relevant engineering principles, legislation, design standards and professional judgement
  • Maintain awareness of the Building Safety Act 2022 and relevant duty-holder responsibilities
Project Delivery
  • Take ownership of defined design packages and technical outputs
  • Deliver work to agreed scope, programme, budget and quality requirements
  • Support Project Managers in coordinating project activities and meeting client expectations
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical reports and project documentation
  • Manage personal workload, time and resources effectively
  • Support the commercial performance and profitability of projects
Client and Stakeholder Liaison
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, contractors and external consultants
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Develop positive working relationships with clients and project stakeholders
  • Support technical approval processes and respond to design queries
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
Team and Professional Development
  • Support technicians and junior team members where appropriate
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and the continued development of the civil engineering team
  • Identify opportunities to improve design quality, efficiency and project delivery
  • Maintain continuous professional development aligned with ICE requirements
  • Work towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status
About You

We are looking for a motivated Civil Engineer with experience in drainage and development infrastructure design. You will have strong problem-solving skills, sound technical judgement and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams. You should be comfortable taking ownership of defined design packages while continuing to develop your technical and project management capabilities.

Essential Requirements
  • Approximately 2-5 years' civil engineering experience
  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in drainage and development infrastructure design
  • Understanding of SuDS, levels, earthworks and external works
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D
  • Experience using MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage or similar drainage software
  • Understanding of highways design and approval processes
  • Knowledge of Section 38 and Section 278 agreements
  • Strong technical problem-solving and organisational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working on residential, commercial or mixed-use developments
  • Knowledge of Section 104 drainage agreements
  • Experience preparing drainage strategies and technical approval submissions
  • Understanding of flood risk and sustainable drainage principles
  • Experience liaising with local authorities and statutory bodies
  • Previous responsibility for managing design packages or smaller projects
  • Actively working towards ICE professional qualification
