The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy based in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer with a background in water, wastewater, drainage or infrastructure design to join a business at an exciting stage of growth, following recent success on a major Yorkshire Water framework. The role offers a varied workload across water and civil engineering projects, with additional exposure to residential development, drainage strategies, external works and infrastructure schemes. The Role
As Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of civil engineering schemes, with a strong focus on water-related infrastructure, drainage and development projects. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing technical designs, supporting project delivery, liaising with clients and stakeholders, and helping to ensure work is delivered to a high standard, on time and in line with client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver civil engineering designs for water, drainage and infrastructure projects
- Support projects connected to the Yorkshire Water framework
- Produce drainage strategies, external works designs and infrastructure layouts
- Work on residential, commercial and development-related civil engineering schemes
- Prepare technical drawings, calculations, reports and design documentation
- Support Section 104, Section 106, Section 38 and Section 278 agreements where required
- Liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities, water companies and wider design teams
- Review designs to ensure compliance with relevant UK standards and guidance
- Manage project tasks, deadlines, technical outputs and client expectations
- Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians
- Maintain a strong focus on quality, commercial awareness and practical design delivery
About You
We are looking for a technically strong and motivated Civil Engineer with experience in water, drainage or infrastructure design. You will be confident working across a varied project workload and able to communicate clearly with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams. Experience within residential development would be highly beneficial, particularly where this includes drainage design, infrastructure planning and adoptable works.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience within a UK civil engineering consultancy or similar environment
- Experience in water, wastewater, drainage or infrastructure design
- Strong understanding of drainage design, SuDS and external works
- Knowledge of UK design standards, approvals and planning processes
- Experience producing technical drawings, calculations and reports
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage workload, deadlines and project priorities
- Commercial awareness and a client-focused approach
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on water company frameworks or utility infrastructure projects
- Previous Yorkshire Water or water authority project experience
- Residential development experience
- Experience with Section 104, Section 106, Section 38 and Section 278 agreements
- Knowledge of MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, PDS or similar software
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status with ICE or similar
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians
- Strong understanding of flood risk, drainage strategies and SuDS design
