Our client delivers innovative engineering consultancy providing engieering services across the transport sector across the UK. Their close‑knit team works collaboratively to deliver high‑quality outcomes for clients throughout the project lifecycle.

About the Role: As a Geotechnical Engineer you will contribute to multi‑disciplinary rail and infrastructure projects by applying geotechnical expertise to ground investigation, risk assessment, design and reporting activities that support safe and cost‑effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise and interpret ground investigation works (boreholes, trial pits, in‑situ testing).
  • Analyse soil and rock data to develop ground models and design parameters.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and design input for foundations, earthworks, slopes, retaining structures and ground improvement solutions.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and multi‑disciplinary design teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into wider project deliverables (e.g., rail infrastructure schemes).
  • Support project delivery including site inspections, technical coordination, and quality assurance.
  • Produce technical documentation compliant with UK standards and industry practice.
  • Contribute to innovation, sustainability and best practice within the firm\’s geotechnical work.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 1 or 2 years experience
  • Degree in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or related field.
  • Professional experience in geotechnical engineering or ground investigation (consultancy preferred).
  • Competence with industry geotechnical software and analysis methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑disciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Experience in infrastructure projects (e.g., rail, transport, utilities).
  • Understanding of UK design standards (Eurocode 7, BS codes) and investigation standards (e.g., BS 5930).
  • Working towards or achieved chartered status (e.g., CEng, CGeol)
