An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Agent / Site Manager to join a leading ground investigation and infrastructure team based from the Doncaster office. This role is suited for a candidate with strong site management experience within ground investigation, civil engineering or infrastructure projects. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of ground investigation projects, working closely with project managers, drilling teams, subcontractors, clients and internal technical staff. The role will suit a proactive, reliable and flexible individual who enjoys being on site, leading teams and keeping projects moving.

As Site Agent / Site Manager, you will be responsible for managing and delivering ground investigation works on site. You will oversee daily operations, coordinate site teams and subcontractors, manage site documentation and ensure works are completed safely and in line with the agreed scope, programme and client requirements. The position will involve regular travel to project sites, with overnight stays required depending on project location.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day running of ground investigation sites
- Coordinate site mobilisation, set-up and demobilisation
- Supervise drilling teams, subcontractors, site staff and suppliers
- Ensure site works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme
- Monitor progress against project requirements and report updates clearly
- Maintain accurate site records, daily diaries and project documentation
- Identify and resolve site issues quickly and professionally
- Escalate technical, commercial or programme concerns where required
- Support the successful delivery of both land-based and overwater projects
Team and Subcontractor Coordination
- Allocate daily tasks to site teams and subcontractors
- Ensure operatives are briefed on RAMS, site rules and client requirements
- Coordinate drilling crews, plant, equipment and materials
- Maintain clear communication between site teams and project managers
- Support and guide junior site staff where required
- Assist with supervision and training of site-based personnel
- Promote a professional and organised working environment on site
Health, Safety and Quality
- Take responsibility for maintaining strong health, safety and quality standards on site
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with approved RAMS and company procedures
- Deliver site inductions, briefings and toolbox talks
- Monitor safe working practices across site activities
- Report hazards, incidents and near misses promptly
- Carry out site checks and support compliance with client requirements
- Ensure site documentation is completed accurately and on time
- Promote a positive safety culture across all site operations
Ground Investigation Support
- Oversee intrusive ground investigation works
- Support investigation methods such as cable percussion, rotary drilling, window sampling, trial pits and monitoring works
- Ensure works are completed in line with the project specification
- Coordinate sampling, logging support and laboratory requirements with technical staff
- Record site conditions, progress and any changes to planned works
- Liaise with project managers and technical teams regarding site findings
- Support factual reporting by ensuring accurate site information is captured
Client and Stakeholder Liaison
- Act as a key site contact for clients and project stakeholders
- Attend site meetings and provide progress updates
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, landowners and client representatives
- Communicate changes, delays or site constraints clearly
- Maintain professional working relationships throughout project delivery
- Support repeat business through reliable and well-managed site delivery
About You
We are looking for an experienced site-based professional with a strong background in ground investigation, geotechnical works or civil engineering site delivery. You may currently be working as a Site Agent, Site Manager, Senior Site Supervisor, Senior Engineering Geologist or Senior Site Geologist. A practical mindset, strong organisation skills and the ability to keep projects moving will be essential.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' relevant UK ground investigation, geotechnical or civil engineering site experience
- Previous experience managing or supervising site operations
- Strong understanding of site health and safety requirements
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, drilling crews or site teams
- Ability to manage daily site activities and keep projects on programme
- Good understanding of ground investigation works and site procedures
- Experience working with RAMS, permits, site records and daily diaries

- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel and stay away when required
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Site Agent, Site Manager or Senior Site Supervisor

- SSSTS or SMSTS qualification
- CSCS card
- First Aid at Work qualification
- CAT and Genny training
- Experience working on infrastructure, highways, rail, utilities or major civil engineering projects
- Experience supporting the supervision and training of junior staff
- Degree or qualification in Geology, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
