An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Geo-Environmental Consultant to join a growing environmental and engineering consultancy. The role will be based around the M6 corridor, approximately 30-45 minutes south of Warrington, supporting projects across the UK. The business has a strong order book across the Midlands and South West, so regular travel will be required.
This position would suit a technically strong geo-environmental professional with a minimum of five years' UK consultancy experience who is confident managing site investigations, interpreting environmental data, preparing detailed reports and supporting project delivery from start to finish.

As Senior Geo-Environmental Consultant, you will manage and deliver geo-environmental projects involving site investigation, environmental sampling, risk assessment, reporting and remediation support. You will work both independently and as part of a project team, liaising with clients, subcontractors, laboratories and internal colleagues. The role will include office-based reporting and project management, together with regular site work across the UK. Travel will be expected, particularly across the Midlands and South West.
Key Responsibilities
- Organise and supervise intrusive ground investigations
- Carry out site walkovers and environmental site assessments
- Supervise trial pitting, window sampling, cable percussion and rotary drilling
- Undertake soil, groundwater, surface water and ground-gas monitoring
- Collect soil, groundwater and gas samples for laboratory analysis
- Prepare accurate field records, logs and monitoring data
- Coordinate subcontractors, drilling teams and laboratories
- Ensure site works are completed safely and in line with project requirements
Environmental Assessment and Reporting
- Prepare Phase 1 desk studies and preliminary risk assessments
- Prepare Phase 2 geo-environmental assessment reports
- Review and interpret laboratory data
- Develop and update conceptual site models
- Identify contamination risks, data gaps and further investigation requirements
- Contribute to human health and controlled waters risk assessments
- Prepare factual and interpretative reports
- Provide clear, practical and commercially focused recommendations
Remediation and Materials Management
- Support the development of remediation strategies
- Assist with verification and validation reporting
- Provide technical input on soil re-use and materials management
- Support waste classification and disposal advice where required
- Liaise with contractors and project teams during remediation works
- Help clients manage environmental risks in a practical and cost-effective way
Project Delivery
- Manage assigned projects from instruction through to completion
- Prepare project scopes, programmes and delivery plans
- Monitor project progress, budgets and deadlines
- Coordinate site works, reporting and technical deliverables
- Support senior colleagues with project planning and commercial delivery
- Manage client expectations and maintain clear communication
- Deliver work to a high technical and quality standard
Client and Team Liaison
- Liaise with clients, contractors, regulators and project stakeholders
- Attend project meetings and provide technical updates
- Work closely with project managers and technical colleagues
- Mentor and support junior team members where required
- Contribute to a collaborative and technically strong team culture
- Help maintain positive client relationships through reliable delivery
About You
We are looking for a capable and motivated geo-environmental professional with strong UK consultancy experience. You should be confident supervising site investigations, interpreting data, preparing technical reports and managing project responsibilities. You will need to be organised, commercially aware and comfortable working across multiple projects. A willingness to travel regularly across the UK will be essential.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' UK geo-environmental consultancy experience
- Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline
- Strong experience supervising site investigations
- Experience preparing Phase 1 desk studies and Phase 2 geo-environmental reports
- Good understanding of contaminated land assessment
- Ability to develop conceptual site models
- Experience interpreting soil, groundwater, gas and laboratory data
- Understanding of human health and controlled waters risk assessment
- Experience preparing clear, accurate technical reports
- Strong project delivery and organisational skills
- Good commercial awareness
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel regularly across the UK
Desirable Experience
- Experience preparing remediation strategies
- Experience preparing validation or verification reports
- Knowledge of materials management and waste classification
- Familiarity with CL:AIRE, DoWCoP and contaminated land guidance
- Experience mentoring junior consultants
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Working towards Chartered status
- Experience preparing fee proposals or supporting tenders
