The Role
We are seeking a Senior / Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer to take a key role in the leadership, technical delivery and commercial performance of our geo-environmental and geotechnical services. Reporting to the Company Directors, you will be responsible for managing projects from inception to completion, supporting business growth and mentoring less experienced engineers. This role is suited to an experienced consultant looking to progress their career within a growing consultancy, with the opportunity to influence strategy, develop client relationships and help shape the future of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall financial, technical and project management control of geo-environmental and geotechnical projects
- Preparation and management of fee proposals, budgets and work in progress
- Development and maintenance of strong client relationships, identifying and securing new business opportunities
- Implementation and development of internal Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and design checking protocols
- Ensuring all designs comply with relevant British Standards, Eurocode 7 and internal procedures
- Coordination with clients, contractors and multi-disciplinary design teams
- Attendance at design team and site meetings as required
- Support Company Directors in achieving strategic and operational business objectives
- Mentoring, managing and developing junior members of the geo-environmental engineering team
- Willingness to undertake site work, including occasional nights away when required
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Strong knowledge of relevant British Standards, design codes and Eurocode 7
- Proven ability to undertake designs using hand calculations and design software, supported by a solid understanding of engineering principles and/or contaminated land risk assessment
- Technical expertise across geotechnical and contaminated land disciplines, including:
- Foundation design and recommendations
- Earthworks and slope stability
- Contaminated land risk assessment and remediation
- Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment (DQRA)
- Proficient in industry software including SlopeW (or similar), OpenGround and Excel
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; QGIS advantageous
- Strong commercial awareness, including understanding of budgets, WIP and debtor management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing junior engineers
Qualifications
- Essential / Preferred:
- Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years' experience within an engineering consultancy
- Working toward or close to achieving Chartered status (ICE, Geological Society or similar)
- Desirable:
- CSCS Card
- CAT & Genny trained
- SSSTS
