We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading infrastructure contractor for an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of a key terminal pumping station project as part of a major Thames Water infrastructure scheme. This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract on a permanent salary, offering the stability of PAYE employment while working on a high‑profile, technically complex project.

The Role

As Project Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating and supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary works, acting as the technical and organisational link between design teams, site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders. The scope of works includes:

  • Tunnelling and shaft construction
  • Civils and structural works
  • Gravity sewers and drainage
  • Pipe installation and structural plinths
  • Section 278 highways works (roads, access, reinstatement)

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Coordination

  • Support planning, coordination, and delivery across all project phases
  • Liaise with design teams to ensure drawings and specifications are buildable and compliant
  • Coordinate multiple workstreams including civils, tunnelling, highways, and MEICA
  • Monitor progress against programme and report on performance

Technical Oversight

  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and method statements
  • Provide engineering support across tunnelling, drainage, pipework, structures, highways, and MEICA
  • Ensure works meet industry standards and project requirements

Site Support

  • Work closely with Site Managers and Supervisors to resolve technical issues
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with approved RAMS
  • Carry out site inspections and quality checks

Commercial & Reporting

  • Support procurement of subcontractors and materials
  • Assist with cost tracking and commercial reporting
  • Contribute to progress reports, risk registers, and lookahead programmes

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Promote a strong safety culture
  • Ensure compliance with HSE regulations and Thames Water standards
  • Identify and mitigate project risks

Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, utility providers, and subcontractors
  • Support Section 278 approvals and inspections

About You

  • Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience working on infrastructure and/or water sector projects
  • Understanding of tunnelling, drainage, gravity sewers, or complex civils works
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and construction sequencing
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience on Thames Water or similar water utility projects
