Bridgestaff Group are recruiting highly experienced Structural Steel Fabricators/Welders to join a busy and fast-paced workshop in the Pontypool area. This role requires hands-on, proven experience in structural steel fabrication. Applicants must be confident in their ability to hit the ground running with minimal supervision in a production environment.

The Role

  • You will be responsible for the fabrication and welding of structural steel components, working directly from detailed engineering drawings within a high-volume workshop.
  • This is a critical hire requiring individuals who can contribute immediately, maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Candidates whose experience is primarily thin gauge, pipework, or light fabrication will not be suitable for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate structural steel components to precise specifications
  • Perform all-position welding using MAG (135/136) and FCAW (Flux-Cored) processes
  • Read and interpret complex fabrication and engineering drawings independently
  • Measure, mark, cut, and assemble heavy steel sections accurately
  • Maintain consistent output within a production-driven environment
  • Ensure all work meets strict quality and industry standards
  • Work proactively as part of a skilled fabrication team

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong, recent experience in structural steel fabrication (ESSENTIAL)
  • Proven track record working in a heavy/structural steel workshop
  • Confident working from detailed technical drawings without supervision
  • Extensive experience in MAG (135/136) welding
  • Competence in Flux-Cored (FCAW) welding
  • Ability to produce high-quality fabrication work quickly and consistently

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Overhead crane licence
  • Forklift licence
  • Experience in high-volume structural steel production
