Bridgestaff Group are currently recruiting for an Operational Shift Leader to support the operational day-to-day running of Material Transfer & Recovery (MTR) operations. This is a hands-on leadership role, responsible for supervising teams, maintaining site safety, and ensuring efficient waste and recycling operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise operational staff and contractors, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and risk assessments
  • Oversee site activity including vehicle, plant, and pedestrian movements
  • Maintain safe, efficient operations across recycling and waste facilities
  • Complete all required documentation (shift reports, site logs, incident reports)
  • Support environmental compliance and waste management processes
  • Act as Fire Warden and First Aider (training provided if required)
  • Manage staff performance, welfare, and communication on shift
  • Ensure materials are correctly processed and contamination is managed
  • Carry out hands-on duties when required (sorting, cleaning, basic maintenance)

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday: Early shift: approx. 07:00 – 15:00

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a supervisory or team leader role
  • Knowledge of health & safety and site operations
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment
  • IT literacy (basic systems, reporting, emails)
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Category B minimum)

Desirable

  • Experience in waste management / recycling operations
  • Plant/machinery operation or relevant licences (e.g. Class 2)
  • Health & Safety or management qualifications

  • Weekend working and overtime may be required
  • Work may be across multiple sites
