As a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, you will support our Commercial and Delivery Teams while developing the skills and knowledge needed to progress toward becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor. This role is ideal for someone currently studying or looking to begin a degree in Quantity Surveying. You will gain hands-on experience working with a variety of contract types, including NEC4, and will be supported through structured training and mentoring.
This role will be based at our HQ in Midsomer Norton. You will be expected to travel to client sites, offices and study locations as required. Contracted to 40hrs per week Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities- Assist in reviewing and understanding client contracts, learning how to identify key commercial risks and opportunities.
- Support the preparation of monthly commercial reports, ensuring information is accurate and submitted on time.
- Help manage project invoicing by gathering progress information and learning how to prepare applications for payment.
- Contribute to the change control process by helping track variations and understanding how they are valued and agreed.
- Work with Delivery Teams to monitor project costs, budgets, and forecasts, developing your ability to analyse financial performance.
- Assist with setting up client contracts and subcontract agreements to ensure commercial information is captured correctly.
- Support procurement activities, including tender reviews, subcontractor comparisons, and negotiation preparation.
- Learn how to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Contribute ideas to improve commercial processes, reporting tools, and ways of working.
- Understand how health, safety, and sustainability considerations influence commercial decisions.
- This role is ideal for someone currently studying or looking to begin a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good communication and willingness to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- A proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and ability to manage deadlines.
- Full UK driving license.
