The Role

To lead the strategic implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital design standards. Development and management of a project surveying team to identify, plan and deliver including the planning, co‑ordination of 3rd party suppliers the scope of survey requirements to support project delivery. This will include the end‑to‑end integration of site‑captured geospatial data into project lifecycles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, embed and manage organization‑wide BIM strategies and BIM Execution Plans (BEP).
  • Oversee the Common Data Environment (CDE) to ensure a "single source of truth" for all stakeholders.
  • Implement ISO 19650 standards across all digital workflows and project handovers.
  • Manage model federation, clash detection, and quality assurance audits.

Digital Design Leadership

  • Define the roadmap for digital design tools, including Generative Design, VR/AR, and advanced visualisation.
  • Drive innovation by identifying and quantifying the suitability, timing of implementation and integration of emerging technologies and software applications that improve design efficiency.
  • Produce business cases as required to evaluate the suitability and cost of implementation of new technologies and applications.
  • Standardise digital assets and libraries (Revit families, templates) to ensure consistency across teams.
  • Work with other parts of the organisation to ensure that new systems and technologies are communicated and that training and support is provided to ensure that uptake and use meet the business objectives.
  • Monitor developments and digital design approaches within Client organisations so that the company is suitably prepared to adapt to new requirements and that these impacts are fully understood from a cost and implementation perspective.

Geospatial & Site Survey Management

  • Develop and direct multi‑skilled survey teams in Reality Capture (Laser Scanning, Photogrammetry, and UAV/Drone surveys).
  • This will identify the cost effectiveness of delivering specialist survey capabilities in‑house e.g. PAS128, by reviewing frequency of use and training and equipment needs.
  • Help develop surveying workflows which help the organisation understand, plan and deliver site survey requirements aligned to specific Client requirements.
  • Identify and integrate suitable 3rd party suppliers (e.g. environmental, archaeology, site survey, GI etc), where specialist input or validation is required.
  • Oversee Scan‑to‑BIM workflows, ensuring site‑captured point clouds are accurately integrated into digital models.
  • Manage the integration of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) with CAD and BIM data for better asset mapping and topographical accuracy.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Manage, mentor and/or support a multidisciplinary team of BIM coordinators, digital designers, and geospatial surveyors.
  • Develop a digital upskilling strategy to train staff in new software and site survey technologies.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Geospatial, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience leading BIM and digital information management within water or utilities infrastructure projects.
  • Strong working knowledge and application of ISO 19650 and BIM Execution Plans (BEP).
  • Experience managing Common Data Environments (CDE) and ensuring robust information governance.
  • Experience integrating survey and geospatial data (e.g. laser scanning, UAV, photogrammetry) into BIM workflows.
  • Knowledge of Scan‑to‑BIM and GIS integration for asset mapping and topographical accuracy.
  • Experience managing site survey requirements and coordinating specialist suppliers (e.g. utilities, environmental, ground investigation).
  • Ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across BIM, digital design, and survey functions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with clients, contractors, and supply chain partners.
  • Experience driving digital adoption and embedding standards across projects.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with UK water clients.
  • Professional membership (e.g. RICS, ICE, CIOB) or BIM certification.
  • Knowledge of PAS128 and utility surveying standards.
  • Experience with digital innovation tools (e.g. Generative Design, VR/AR, visualisation platforms).
  • Experience assessing and developing in‑house survey capabilities vs outsourced delivery.
