32 hours per week. This is an exciting time to join Bridgend CBC as we remodel the way we meet the needs of children who require support in line with the Welsh Government agenda to end profit in children's residential services in Wales. Hillsboro House provides care and support for one child/young person aged between 8 and 25 years who, due to complex needs, cannot be placed alongside others. Hillsboro will be used as a short-term bridging placement toward a more suitable and stable long-term placement. The service is intended to be able to become 'dormant' and to be reactivated at short notice if an appropriate child or young person is referred, with changes in service status communicated to CIW. This approach aims to be more reactive and can avoid an Out of County placement. The service focuses on providing a therapeutic environment to stabilise the child’s/young person’s challenging behaviour, improve risk-taking behaviours, reconnect to education, training or employment where necessary, and support the identification of suitable long-term move-on placements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the shift leader within a children's residential service.
  • Ensure the home remains compliant with Regulatory Requirements and supports children and young people to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of this innovative approach to care.
  • Engage flexibly and work to high standards during shifts, including managing responsibilities in a 32-hour-per-week role.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide a therapeutic environment and support transition to appropriate long-term placements.

Qualifications

  • Currently working towards the required qualification; registered and working towards the QCF level 3, Health and Social Care in children and young people (as listed in the Social Care Sector in Wales).

Requirements

  • Ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.
  • Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
  • Enhanced Children and Adults DBS check is required (Disclosure & Barring Service).
  • Sleeping In and Weekend Working are requirements of this post.
