Do you want to play a key role in shaping sustainable transportation outcomes and managing the transportation impacts of development to ensure vital infrastructure investment in Bridgend County Borough Council? If so, we want to hear from you and would welcome your application. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced professional to join the Highways Development function at Bridgend within the Planning & Development Services Group. You will be part of a growing, well established and highly skilled team that sits at the heart of the highways development management process and helps shape how new development is delivered across the borough.

Responsibilities

  • Take the lead on providing professional and specialist highway and transportation advice for a range of development proposals, including complex and strategically significant sites.
  • Assess transport impacts of development, advise on appropriate mitigation and support the delivery of new and improved transport infrastructure where required.
  • Work closely with developers, town planners, highways design engineers, other local authority officers and contractors when needed.
  • Undertake site visits, attend client meetings, public meetings, meetings with local Councillors and other local authority officers, requiring sound professional judgement and a pragmatic, solution‑focused approach.
  • Take a leading role on more complex planning applications with support from the section Team Leader and collaborate with colleagues to balance competing demands while delivering robust, defensible transportation comments and observations to town planners.
  • Contribute to mentoring and the professional development of junior team members, helping to build capability and resilience within the team.
  • Apply significant experience and knowledge of highway engineering, transport policy and highway development control matters to issues relating to the provision and delivery of transportation services at local and regional levels.
  • Manage pressure on schemes and tight timescales while maintaining the constructive and proportionate approach the team is known for.
  • Work at the interface between planning, transport and development and contribute to shaping how growth and transport come forward in Bridgend County Borough.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant experience and working knowledge of highway engineering, transport policy and highway development control matters.
  • Understanding of the issues relating to the provision and delivery of transportation services at local and regional levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage tight timescales, and communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.
