About the Role:

Do you thrive on fresh air, open spaces, and making a real difference to the natural world — but also enjoy seeing your plans come to life through well-managed projects and collaboration? Then this could be your perfect balance. As a Countryside Management Officer, you’ll be at the heart of protecting, enhancing, and celebrating Bridgend’s rich and varied natural environment — from our rugged coastlines and river valleys to rolling hills and nature reserves. Your week might start in the office, developing management plans, coordinating volunteer activities, or engaging with community partners. By midweek, you could be out in the field — inspecting habitats, leading conservation tasks, or liaising with contractors on practical improvement works. Every day offers something new.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Managing local nature reserves across the county.
  • Planning and delivering habitat restoration and biodiversity projects.
  • Working closely with local communities, schools, and volunteer groups to inspire care for the environment.
  • Overseeing contractors, maintenance programmes, and access improvements.
  • Supporting local and national environmental targets — helping to make Bridgend greener, healthier, and more resilient.

About You:

You’ll be passionate about nature and sustainability, with practical countryside management experience and a knack for teamwork. You’ll combine field skills — habitat management, surveying, site maintenance — with confidence in project planning, budgeting, and partnership working. You’ll be just as comfortable in wellies as you are in meetings.

Why Join Us?

  • Work across some of South Wales’s most beautiful landscapes.
  • Play a key role in shaping the future of our natural spaces.
  • Enjoy a healthy blend of outdoor work and structured office time.
  • Be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to nature recovery and community wellbeing.
