Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee the delivery of civil engineering and groundworks projects across Cumbria. This role will involve managing site operations from start to finish, ensuring projects are assured on time, within budget, and in full compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards. The successful candidate will be hands-on, well organised, and capable of leading site teams while maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and efficiently manage labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors on site
- Control site costs and resources to ensure commercial and programme targets are met
- Lead by example, fostering a collaborative and productive site culture
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
- Uphold high standards of health & safety, quality control, and site presentation
- Identify and resolve site issues proactively to minimise disruption to delivery
- Ensure accurate site records are maintained using MS Project, Word, Excel, and electronic filing systems
- Drive waste reduction and ensure sites operate in a safe, tidy, and environmentally responsible manner
Project Experience
The role will primarily focus on general groundworks and civil engineering projects, including:
- Drainage works
- Highways and infrastructure
- Reinforced concrete
- Remediation works
- Hard landscaping
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Site Manager role within civil engineering or groundworks
- HND / HNC or higher qualification in a construction-related discipline
- Valid CSCS card
- SMSTS qualification
- First Aid at Work certification
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices and Environmental Management
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel
- Full UK driving licence
