As a key member of a surgery's management team, this role is responsible for consistently driving exceptional customer service and clinical care whilst promoting pet wellbeing, delivering preventive services and treating sick and injured pets.

This role spearheads continuous improvement of the service capability of the surgery and the upskilling of colleagues to become a centre of clinical excellence. In doing so, this role is key to driving turnover and profitability. You will be the Head Vet of a small animal first opinion veterinary practice based in the beautiful Norfolk Broads. The practice is easily accessible with good transport services available nearby (including link via bus and train). The ethos has always been clear: to do the best for the animals in the practices care and to look after the team with respect and kindness. They take pride in doing the job well. The vet team enjoy a 4-day week (with a 1 in 3 Saturday). This constitutes up to a 40 hour week. The rota is designed to give one 4-day weekend and one 3-day weekend per 6 weeks. We will also consider part time.

Your duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to, the following:

  • Conduct consultations, investigations and surgical procedures, practising outstanding first opinion medicine and surgery, with a focus on preventive and diagnostic driven healthcare.
  • Conduct clinical audits to develop the Vet team and to improve the surgery performance.
  • Maintain a reflective no-blame culture of clinical audit.
  • Investigate and resolve clinical adverse incidents and customer complaints using these as an opportunity to reflect and improve processes, standards and protocols.
  • Influence and lead the team to change embedded ways of working to improve outcomes.
  • Lead by example by consistently demonstrating a caring, professional attitude to customers and patients.
  • Intuitively read the customer, patient and the situation to anticipate needs.
  • Influence customers to follow best-practise advice.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with customers regarding progress of investigations, treatment and follow-up care.
  • Ensure that inpatients receive the appropriate clinical care, and an effective handover is conducted between colleagues and/or out of hours providers.
  • Collaborate with the central leadership team to expand and improve the services provided at the surgery.
  • Be an ambassador and lead the team to adhere to the values of the practice and wider CVS Group.
  • Maximise the commercial performance of the clinic by monitoring key performance indicators such as average transaction values and diagnostic percentages.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve commercial and clinical performance.

Ideally, you will have sound commercial acumen.
