We are looking for a COGNOS Developer to join our team.
Work location: United Kingdom
Work setting: Remote with on-site attendance in Bristol
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build IBM Cognos Framework Manager models for each system (BIWMS, BODMS, VITAL, BOB).
- Develop, optimise, and maintain approximately 200–300 reports and dashboards using Cognos Analytics 12.
- Collaborate with Authority’s testing team to perform functional and user acceptance testing before deployment to live environments.
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency across multiple frameworks and reporting layers.
- Apply performance optimisation techniques such as query tuning, model restructuring, and indexing for faster report generation.
- Implement security and access controls aligned with MoD’s “OFFICIAL–SENSITIVE” classification standards.
- Support root cause analysis, issue resolution, and report corrections in coordination with DE&S business teams.
- Provide technical documentation including model design, data lineage, and deployment guides.
- Comply with DEFCON 658, 659A, and 660 security requirements and the Official Secrets Act 1989.
- Attend progress reviews and submit milestone updates as per the project delivery plan.
Knowledge & Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in IBM Cognos Analytics (v11 or v12).
- Proven experience in Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio, and Transformer.
- Strong SQL proficiency (Oracle or SQL Server).
- Understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and relational modelling.
- Demonstrated experience in report optimisation and performance tuning.
- Experience delivering secure reporting solutions within government or regulated sectors.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Agile working practices and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or equivalent.
