Job Purpose
The Depot Warehouse and Yard Lead will oversee the day-to-day operations of our Paddock Wood branch, ensuring excellent customer service, strong sales performance, and effective staff management. This role requires confident leadership, commercial awareness, and a solid understanding of building materials and trade customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Branch Operations
- Manage daily branch activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and compliance
- Oversee stock control, deliveries, and yard/warehouse organisation
- Ensure the branch is clean, safe, and well-presented at all times
- Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service at all times
- Handle customer queries, complaints, and escalations professionally
- Ensure quick turnaround times for orders and deliveries
- Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop branch staff
- Conduct training sessions and regular team meetings
- Manage staffing levels, rotas, and recruitment in collaboration with the Branch Manager (Ipswich)
- Foster a positive, high-performance team culture
- Supplier and Stock Management
- Manage stock levels to meet customer demand without overstocking
- Oversee goods-in and goods-out processes
Key Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a builders merchant or similar trade environment
- Strong knowledge of building materials and industry practices
- Proven leadership and team management experience
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
