Job Purpose

The Depot Warehouse and Yard Lead will oversee the day-to-day operations of our Paddock Wood branch, ensuring excellent customer service, strong sales performance, and effective staff management. This role requires confident leadership, commercial awareness, and a solid understanding of building materials and trade customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Branch Operations
    • Manage daily branch activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations
    • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and compliance
    • Oversee stock control, deliveries, and yard/warehouse organisation
    • Ensure the branch is clean, safe, and well-presented at all times
  • Customer Service
    • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times
    • Handle customer queries, complaints, and escalations professionally
    • Ensure quick turnaround times for orders and deliveries
  • Leadership
    • Lead, motivate, and develop branch staff
    • Conduct training sessions and regular team meetings
    • Manage staffing levels, rotas, and recruitment in collaboration with the Branch Manager (Ipswich)
    • Foster a positive, high-performance team culture
  • Supplier and Stock Management
    • Manage stock levels to meet customer demand without overstocking
    • Oversee goods-in and goods-out processes

Key Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a builders merchant or similar trade environment
  • Strong knowledge of building materials and industry practices
  • Proven leadership and team management experience
