The role:
We are seeking an experienced EIC Planner to join our Engineering team at Briar Chemicals. You will be a key contributor to the Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (EIC) function at an Upper Tier COMAH site. Reporting to the EIC Team Leader, the role focuses on planned inspections and maintenance of EIC equipment used to monitor and control chemical processes and associated equipment in accordance with BS EN 61511 (Functional Safety For the Process Industry Sector) and BS EN 60079-14 (Electrical Apparatus For Explosive Gas Atmospheres) standards.
What you’ll be doing:
Key responsibilities of the EIC Planner include:
- Planning support for the maintenance of a wide range of unit operations, instrumentation, PLC systems, motors and final elements.
- Planning support for continuous improvement and capital projects delivering improving safety, environmental impact, production and quality.
Your key tasks and activities will be to:
- Plan and coordinate planned and reactive EIC maintenance activities to support safe and reliable plant operation.
- Schedule and manage SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) proof testing and PCT (Process Control Technology) function testing, ensuring all checks and remediation are completed on time.
- Work closely with the operations teams to agree access, priorities, and timing for maintenance work.
- Prepare and issue a daily maintenance workload to key stakeholders and teams.
- Track and report KPIs for planned maintenance, highlighting progress and any issues.
- Create, organise, and manage planned maintenance work packs.
- Use the CMMS (SAP) daily to raise, update, and close maintenance work orders and ensure all completed work orders are properly closed and documented.
- Plan and coordinate reactive maintenance following breakdowns or urgent issues.
- Liaise with EIC engineers to support project planning and problem solving.
- Communicate with maintenance contractors (electricians and instrument technicians) to plan and deliver work safely and efficiently.
- Provide drafting support for engineering activities.
You will be required to participate in a 1-in-6 out of hour’s call-out rota, once deemed competent, for which you will receive additional remuneration.
What you will bring:
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds electrical qualification.
- 2 years’ relevant planning experience and experience working on electrical systems.
- Knowledge and experience of IEE wiring regulations.
- Knowledge of COMAH.
- Experience using a CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and Office programs.
- Background knowledge of Instrumentation, Electrical and Control maintenance.
- HNC/HND in Electrical, Instrumentation or Control.
- Upper Tier COMAH experience.
- Understanding of instrumentation and electrical infrastructure.
- Understanding of Functional Safety for Safety Instrumented Functions.
- VBA (Visual Basic For Applications) programming skills.
- Understanding of DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and ATEX.

How you will be rewarded:
We offer a competitive salary starting at £44,000 per annum in addition to a benefits package, which includes an annual bonus, group personal pension scheme where we will match your contributions plus 2%, private healthcare scheme, flex time, and 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays).
