We are working with a highly regarded legal firm to appoint an experienced Financial Controller on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This is a key leadership role within a collaborative and forward-thinking finance team, offering the opportunity to shape financial operations, strengthen controls, and support strategic decision-making in a complex, regulated environment. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing core finance operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving financial performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Overseeing core finance operations, including client and office account activities, ensuring accuracy and consistency in day-to-day outputs
  • Taking ownership of working capital performance, with a focus on WIP, billing efficiency and the timely conversion of cash
  • Supporting a robust financial governance framework, ensuring controls and processes are adhered to across the business
  • Acting as a key point of contact during audit cycles, helping coordinate information and maintain high-quality financial reporting
  • Producing clear, relevant management information and analysis to support senior stakeholders
  • Building effective relationships across the business to challenge performance and influence decision-making
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve systems and enhance reporting capability
  • Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the finance team

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CA(SA) / CAANZ)
  • 3-5 years’ experience within the legal sector or a similar partnership-based environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of SAR, VAT and partnership accounting
  • Experience managing audits and financial reporting processes
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Advanced Excel capability (experience with data tools / BI is advantageous)
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with strong attention to detail
