I am working with a leading international accounting and advisory practice looking to further develop its established and growing Risk & Assurance offering.

The team provides commercially focused assurance and advisory support across internal audit, risk, governance and controls, helping organisations strengthen their frameworks, respond to changing requirements and improve the effectiveness of their wider control environments. They are looking to strengthen the senior leadership team with an experienced Director hire to be based out of the Reading office.

Joining this environment offers the opportunity to work with a varied portfolio of established and high-growth organisations, combining senior client delivery with business development, proposition building and wider team leadership. You will work alongside experienced professionals across multiple service lines, bringing together technical expertise, commercial insight and technology-led approaches to deliver practical solutions for clients.

The Role

This opportunity sits within a growing Risk & Assurance team and will play a key role in developing the firm's presence across Reading and the wider Thames Valley market. The team delivers internal audit, risk, controls and assurance services, supporting organisations with increasingly complex governance and regulatory requirements.

The role offers a blend of senior client leadership, business development and strategic input. You will take an active role in growing the regional practice, developing new and existing client relationships and shaping solutions around emerging areas including technology, data analytics and AI.

Alongside leading major client engagements, you will work collaboratively with senior colleagues across the wider firm to identify opportunities, develop integrated solutions and continue building the profile of the Risk & Assurance offering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and continued development of internal audit, risk, governance and controls advisory services
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, developing a strong network across Reading and the wider Thames Valley market
  • Originate new business opportunities and play a leading role in converting relationships into sustainable client engagements
  • Advise organisations on strengthening governance, risk management and control frameworks, including evolving corporate governance requirements
  • Develop innovative client solutions incorporating technology, data analytics and AI where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders across other service lines to identify opportunities and deliver broader, integrated advisory solutions
  • Represent the practice externally through market engagement, relationship building and relevant regional events
  • Support the continued development of the Risk & Assurance proposition while providing leadership and direction to the wider team

Requirements

  • Significant experience within internal audit, risk, governance, controls or a closely related assurance and advisory environment
  • Proven experience generating new business and developing long-term relationships with senior client stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of governance and controls environments, including internal audit, second-line risk and third-party assurance
  • Experience advising organisations on the design, development and improvement of governance and control frameworks
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities and develop advisory solutions around client requirements
  • Exposure to a combination of high-growth, privately owned and listed organisations
