Brewer Morris are working with a leading international financial services organisation to appoint a senior VAT and indirect tax specialist. This is a high-profile role with responsibility for managing compliance and advisory projects across multiple jurisdictions, driving process improvements, and partnering with senior stakeholders on strategic initiatives.
Overview
You will oversee indirect tax compliance and governance across Europe and other international regions. The role combines technical expertise with project management and offers significant exposure to cross-border transactions, group structuring, and acquisitions. There is a strong focus on process optimisation and automation, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys improving systems and delivering best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage VAT and indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Lead reviews of existing compliance processes and implement automation and efficiency improvements.
- Act as a key advisor on indirect tax matters for new projects, restructures, and acquisitions.
- Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on the business, communicating risks and opportunities to stakeholders.
- Oversee VAT governance, including risk management, controls, and compliance with regimes such as SAO.
- Review and optimise partial exemption methods and VAT recovery strategies.
- Liaise with external advisors and tax authorities, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring smooth audits.
- Support digital reporting initiatives, including Making Tax Digital and real-time VAT reporting in relevant jurisdictions.
- Draft and implement VAT policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with global standards.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and operational teams to ensure correct VAT treatment in contracts and transactions.
Requirements
- Strong technical expertise in UK and ideally some European VAT and indirect taxes.
- Professional qualification preferred but not essential (ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent).
- Minimum 8 years' experience in indirect tax, ideally at senior manager or director level.
- Background in financial services or a complex multinational environment.
- Must have experience with PESM and SAO.
- Experience with compliance-led roles and process improvement projects.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders.
