A well-established professional services firm is seeking an Interim Commercial Finance Manager to provide strategic financial guidance to its fee-earning divisions. This position sits at the heart of the firm’s commercial operations, supporting senior leaders with high-quality analysis, insightful reporting, and proactive business partnering. Working closely with the Head of FP&A, you will help shape budgeting and forecasting cycles, deliver meaningful performance analysis, and contribute to ongoing projects aimed at improving the firm’s financial reporting capability. This role suits someone who understands the dynamics of a fee-earning environment and enjoys influencing decision-making in a collaborative, professional setting.
Key Responsibilities- Build strong, trusted relationships with partners and senior operational leaders across fee-earning teams.
- Provide timely commercial insight to support revenue, profitability, and cost-related decisions.
- Act as a go-to financial advisor, offering clear interpretation of data and proactive recommendations.
- Produce accurate and informative management reporting for partners, departmental leaders, and other internal stakeholders.
- Deliver analysis on trends and performance indicators, including income, costs, utilisation, and profitability.
- Support the integrity and accuracy of financial and operational data, ensuring appropriate use of internal systems and structures.
- Assist in delivering the budgeting and reforecasting cycles for multiple business units.
- Prepare financial models and narrative commentary that help stakeholders understand key movements and drivers.
- Work with the FP&A team to refine forecasting approaches and strengthen underlying assumptions.
- Play an active role in initiatives aimed at enhancing the firm’s management information and reporting tools.
- Contribute to the design and rollout of improved processes, dashboards, and reporting frameworks.
- Provide ad hoc analysis in response to business needs, strategic projects, or external survey requirements.
- Proven background working within professional services (legal, consulting, accountancy, architecture, or similar), with a strong understanding of fee‑earning models.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Significant experience in commercial finance, FP&A, or business partnering roles.
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
- Confident engaging with senior stakeholders and challenging constructively when required.
- Strong Excel capability: familiarity with BI or reporting tools is advantageous.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment and managing competing deadlines.
- Understanding of key professional-services performance drivers such as utilisation, pricing, WIP, and margin.
