We have been exclusively engaged to find a Head of Fund Accounting for a prestigious and growing US Real Estate Investment Firm continuing to grow in the UK. The company is at a pivotal moment as it goes through professionalisation to prepare itself for continued growth and success. This role will be managing and captaining the fund accounting team which is all in-house. This individual will be a senior leader within the finance function. It is important that this person is able to operate in a standalone capacity and will be given the freedom and in fact expected to make strategic and operational decisions about the development of the team.
The ideal candidate will have depth of experience in real estate investments/alternatives, particularly from a PE perspective and have a firm grasp of reporting requirements for fund accounting in the Real Estate investments space. The successful applicant will be a strong people leader. The firm is known to have an excellent working culture. This is an in-office role; the successful applicant would be expected to be present in the office most days.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, train and develop a team of fund accountants and fund controllers, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Oversee the production of NAVs, financial statements, and investor reporting across a range of fund structures.
- Key stakeholder management at all levels of seniority across the business.
- Assist the deals team in tax structuring.
- Identify and implement process enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Act as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, providing insight and oversight on fund performance and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks and internal controls.
- Support the integration and optimisation of fund accounting systems and tools.
Required skills and experience:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with 7+ years post-qualified experience preferred.
- Leadership role in fund accounting with an alternatives/real estate investment firm.
- Prior experience in practice before moving into fund finance preferred but not essential.
- Proven leadership experience within a fund accounting environment, improving and developing teams with a captain mentality.
- Strong understanding of fund structures and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Track record of identifying, advocating for and implementing process improvements.
