An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Manager in our friendly family GP Practice. The partners are looking for an exceptional leader with strong business management skills, particularly in strategic management, managing staff, human resources (HR), project management, public relations, financial planning and budgeting. Be innovative, resourceful focusing on growth and future proofing. Opportunities for part time working would be considered.

Main duties of the job:

The practice would like to recruit a senior manager with the vision and enthusiasm to successfully lead the team through the current NHS challenges and changes. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential and the ability to support and develop our team through proactive leadership and effective management to ensure smooth running of the practice. The successful candidate will need to be able to work collaboratively with the partners and the management team as a group and individually, to develop and implement strategies.

About us:

Bretton Park Healthcare are two practices that work together. This was a new adventure for both sites from January 2022. We are a dynamic, motivated and friendly team with a passion for education and development. We are a registered training practice and are actively involved in research. We have just under 21,000 patients over the two practice sites. We have a very experienced and highly skilled clinical team of Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, HCAs, Pharmacists, Social Prescriber, Care Coordinators who are well supported by an excellent administration team.

Job responsibilities:

Job Purpose:

The Business Manager provides senior operational and strategic leadership for Bretton Park Healthcare. The role is responsible for translating the Partners' strategic objectives into effective operational delivery, ensuring the practice is financially sustainable, compliant, and well-positioned for future challenges within NHS primary care. The business manager will act as the senior non-clinical executive, leading governance, finance, estates, workforce, and system working in collaboration with the Partners, Management Team, PCN, and ICB. NHS experience desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic & Operational Leadership: Provide executive leadership for the day-to-day operational running of the practice. Lead delivery of the practice's strategic plan, business plan, and development objectives. Ensure the practice is future-proofed through innovation, transformation, and service redesign. Act as senior escalation point for operational risks, issues, and incidents.
  • Financial & Business Management: Executive responsibility for overall financial performance and sustainability. Oversee practice and PCN budgets, forecasting, cash flow, and financial controls. Ensure effective scrutiny of income streams including GMS/PMS, QOF, enhanced services, and PCN funding. Identify and implement income generation, efficiency, and cost-reduction opportunities. Provide regular financial and performance reports and advice to the GP Partners.
  • Governance, Quality & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with CQC, NHS contractual requirements, and statutory legislation. Act as executive lead for CQC registration, inspections, and ongoing assurance. Oversee risk management, business continuity planning, and information governance. Brief Partners on NHS, ICB, and regulatory changes, including risks and opportunities. Provide senior leadership and support to the management team. Support strategic workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and organisational development. Promote a positive, inclusive and high-performing organisational culture. Provide leadership oversight of senior HR, performance management, and complex people matters. Act as senior operational lead for PCN engagement and collaborative working arrangements. Represent the practice at PCN, ICB, and system-level meetings as required. Lead estates strategy, premises development, utilisation, and compliance with NHS standards. Develop and maintain effective relationships with commissioners and external stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the GP Partners at internal and external meetings as agreed.
  • Support audits, inspections, and reviews as required.
  • Provide senior management cover where necessary to ensure business continuity.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Probationary Period: Six months
  • Notice Period: Three months following successful completion of probation
  • Annual Leave: Six weeks plus statutory public holidays (pro rata)
  • Pension: NHS Pension Scheme (or alternative scheme where applicable)
  • Salary: £55,000 - 60,000 dependent on experience

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Education to degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience: Experience of CQC Inspection and Standards. Excellent HR skills and knowledge of employment law. Excellent financial management and forecasting skills. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills. Experience of managing change/new service development. Experience of management in General Practice.
  • Knowledge and skills, plus personal attributes: Strong leadership, performance management and staff development skills. Excellent communication skills with the team and with the public. Knowledge and understanding of information and communication technology. Self-motivated. Flexible and adaptive. Strong interpersonal skills. Trustworthy. Knowledge of local health economy. Knowledge of TPP SystmOne.
