Brett Martin, a recognised leader in plastics and building products manufacturing, is seeking an experienced Production / Business Unit Manager to oversee operations within our Plumbing & Drainage division. This is a key operational leadership role responsible for the efficient running of multiple production units, ensuring safety, quality, delivery and cost targets are met. You will lead a committed team, work closely with support functions across the business, and play a central role in driving continuous improvement.

About The Role

Main Purpose:

To lead the operational performance of the Plumbing & Drainage production units, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective manufacturing that meets quality specifications, delivery expectations and business objectives. The post holder will drive continuous improvement, optimise resources and build a high-performing, engaged team.

Operational Leadership
  • Lead the day-to-day running of all production operations across the plumbing and drainage division, ensuring output meets specification, quality and delivery requirements.
  • Plan and schedule production activity in collaboration with Planning, ensuring efficient sequencing and resource utilisation.
  • Monitor machine performance, champion preventative maintenance, and work with Engineering to minimise downtime and maximise throughput.
  • Identify, monitor and improve production KPIs relating to safety, quality, cost, waste and delivery.
  • Ensure production areas operate to the required housekeeping, safety and compliance standards.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead and deliver departmental business improvement plans, enhancing efficiency, reducing waste and improving workflow.
  • Drive process optimisation and seek opportunities to maximise synergies between production units.
  • Support cultural change programmes to build a continuous improvement mindset.
People Leadership
  • Ensure the production workforce is adequately resourced, trained, competent and supported to meet operational needs.
  • Provide clear communication, direction and feedback to teams.
  • Drive engagement, develop talent, promote flexible working practices and manage performance effectively.
  • Handle day-to-day employee relations matters in line with company policies and employment legislation.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure quality standards and quality assurance systems are understood, followed and regularly reviewed.
  • Work closely with Quality and Technical teams to resolve issues and improve product consistency.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
Finance & Cost Control
  • Manage and control all operational and material costs within agreed budgets.
  • Undertake stock management of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Monitor and account for variances between planned and actual production.
Reporting & Communication
  • Report weekly to the Head of Plumbing and Drainage Operations on all production, workforce and operational matters.
  • Prepare monthly performance reports for presentation to the Board.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to production output, scrap, timekeeping, training and other KPIs.
  • Collaborate closely with support functions (Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, HR, H&S, Technical and Commercial) to ensure smooth factory operations.
Required Criteria
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience within manufacturing.
  • Experience of lean manufacturing tools (5S / 5WHY / SMED).
  • Have a good understanding of materials management.
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and reporting skills.
  • Have excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Have experience of developing staff and achieving departmental and business objectives.
  • Have strong IT skills including MS office and particularly excel.
  • Have a third level qualification in either: Production / Mechanical / Process / Polymer Engineering.
  • Have strong people management skills in leading, managing and motivating teams to achieve challenging targets.
Desired Criteria
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of HSE standards and ISO 9001 quality in a manufacturing environment.
  • Have experience with MRP and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
