About The Role

We are a new company in the South East UK, specializing in the import and handling of cementitious products. We are establishing an independent cementitious products terminal in UK in Sheerness, Kent, to cater to the demand in the SE market.

Job Overview :

  • We are seeking a motivated, experienced and skilled Shift Supervisor to join our team and support all operational aspects of our cementitious products terminal operations.
  • As a Shift Supervisor, your key responsibility is for the supervision of a small team and for the safe operation of unloading imported cementitious ships and loading out of flat stores onto day silos and thereafter to road tankers.
  • We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills, an ability to problem solve and think on their feet, a strong work ethic and ability to get things done. They will lead and supervise from the front the operation and maintenance onsite of our pneumatic ship unloader and all product movement within the terminal.
  • Work is on a mixed roster / shift pattern dependant on shipping deliveries of 3 shift cycles which also includes full weekend working when the ship unloading shifts are in operation.
  • Your strong supervisory skills and plant knowledge will be called upon to help organise the site, direct subordinates and ensure all equipment is working at its best capability including troubleshooting to ensure the site operation can proceed efficiently.

Main Responsibilities:

Terminal Shift Supervision:

  • Leading a small team of operatives to keep the plant running smoothly and efficiently. Ensure minimum downtime of equipment and maximum effort to keep customers satisfied.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all operational staff under supervision. Ensuring that the highest of standards are maintained at all times.
  • Assist with the operation and supervision of all operational aspects of the cementitious products terminal, including bulk ship handling, product storage and handling, equipment maintenance and upkeep.
  • General maintenance of equipment, referring any issues on to management and sourcing (and finding the costings) of replacement parts. Ensuring the equipment is regularly tested in time for the expected vessel arrival.
  • Unloading of imported cementitious products ships in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the day-to-day shift operations of the company's equipment, including but not limited to vessel unloaders, shovel loaders, weighbridges, silos, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Operations manager and the Senior Supervisor to develop and implement maintenance and operational strategies, policies, and procedures to optimise terminal efficiency.
  • Work closely along side fellow Shift Supervisor conducting effective handovers between shifts as appropriate.

Day to Day Sea Terminal Operations:

  • Helping with onsite maintenance and daily plant checks.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of quality of products delivered to all systems and for the quality of all bulk loaded products going to other locations on his shift.

Equipment Operations & Supervision of Staff:

  • Supervision of Terminal Operators on night and day shift rosters.
  • Train and develop terminal operators to enhance their skills and knowledge in terminal operations, safety procedures, and equipment handling.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule and prioritize equipment maintenance and repairs.

Major job challenges/any other relevant information:

  • Assist towards the overall efficient operations of the business, including ship unloading matters, terminal operations and product loading to the company’s transport fleet.
  • General maintenance issues: Helping the Senior supervisor to Manage and implement a maintenance program to ensure continuous operational efficiency and dealing with unexpected breakdowns in timely manner, calling out contractors and informing Line Managers in a timely and appropriate manner.

Knowledge and skills:

Essential:

  • Daily mechanical inspections of site and equipment.
  • Health and Safety training and awareness.
  • Problem-solving Skills.
  • Planning and organising.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of plant equipment and processes.

Desirable:

  • Experience in terminal and/or factory daily operations.
  • Experience in cementitious material movement - unloading imported cementitious ships and loading out of flat stores onto day silos and thereafter to road tankers.
  • Pneumatic ship unloader and terminal product movement
