We are looking for a reliable and proactive Maintenance Fitter to join our Day Maintenance Team. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, mechanically skilled, and committed to delivering high levels of plant reliability through planned preventative maintenance and continuous improvement. Experience in heavy industry is an advantage, but not essential for a strong mechanical fitter with good PPM discipline and problem-solving ability.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on plant equipment including mixers, conveyors, pumps, bearings, and other mechanical systems.
- Complete inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and minor repairs to maintain equipment reliability.
- Replace worn or high-risk components before failure to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant reliability, reduce downtime, and optimise maintenance processes.
- Maintain accurate CMMS entries for all PPM, repairs, and CI activities.
- Identify recurring mechanical issues and provide recommendations to the CI and engineering teams.
- Assist with installation, modification, and testing of new equipment or improvement projects.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for the Shift Maintenance Team as required.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, CI, and maintenance colleagues to deliver effective plant performance.
- Follow LOTO, PPE, and site safety procedures at all times.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical maintenance skills (mixers, conveyors, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, drives, etc.).
- Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent mechanical engineering background.
- Ability to perform accurate preventive maintenance tasks and record work effectively.
- Good hands-on fault-finding and mechanical repair skills.
- CMMS experience for logging PPM and maintenance activities.
- Strong understanding of safety processes (LOTO, PPE, H&S practices).
- Effective teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in concrete, aggregates, cement, or heavy industry desirable.
- Multi-skilled capability advantageous.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance methods desirable.
- Experience in CI, lean manufacturing, or reliability improvement beneficial.
