We are looking for a proactive and highly organised People Officer to join the Group People team at Brett Group. This is a key role that helps build strong foundations of support across the business, contributing to an excellent employee experience and the successful delivery of People initiatives. Working in a fast‑paced environment, the successful candidate will support the full employee lifecycle and play an important role across all areas of HR, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, systems management, payroll support, learning and development, and people reporting.
The People Officer will act as a first point of contact for managers and employees, providing guidance on HR systems, policies, procedures, and onboarding activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first‑line HR support and guidance to managers and employees on a range of people matters, including:
- contract queries
- policies and procedures
- recruitment
- occupational health referrals
- Support effective onboarding for new starters at the Canterbury Head Office and senior hires across the Brett businesses, while ensuring a smooth and professional offboarding process.
- Act as the lead administrator for the Applicant Tracking System (Eploy) and external job boards, including supporting and facilitating training across the business where required.
- Support Group Head Office recruitment activities.
- Attend and assist with careers and promotional events to showcase Brett Group as an employer of choice.
- Carry out a range of HR administrative duties including:
- maintaining HR systems and databases
- managing approved supplier listings
- generating letters and documentation
- arranging meetings and hearings
- taking notes and recording actions from meetings
- Draft HR guidance documents and policies where required.
- Coordinate Learning & Development activities across a wide range of subjects internally and externally, providing regular progress reports and recommendations where appropriate.
- Manage the apprenticeship portal and associated administration.
- Act as the lead for HR support roles across the businesses, coordinating group activities, monitoring project progress, and ensuring clear communication and instructions are provided.
- Work collaboratively with external providers to ensure seamless delivery of services.
- Provide support to the People Advisor and managers with employee relations case management.
- Work closely with the Group Head of People to establish and coordinate people‑focused forums, ensuring accurate records are maintained and actions followed up in a timely manner.
- Produce monthly reports and insights on key people data and HR metrics.
About You
The ideal candidate will be:
- Organised, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
- A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment
- Experienced in HR administration and employee lifecycle activities
- Proactive and able to work collaboratively across teams
- Competent using HR systems and Microsoft Office applications
Previous experience within a HR or People function is essential, and experience using Eploy or similar Applicant Tracking Systems would be advantageous.
