Brentford Group Practice is a well-established GP practice with a list size 8200, CQC rated as good with high QOF achievement, and we use System One. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Health Care Assistant for 22.5 hours a week, preferably Monday, Thursday and Friday over 3 days. We seek someone who shares our commitment and passion for providing high-quality patient care and who also has the desire to attain their own individual career goals. We provide regular supervision and training opportunities, both in-house and external.
Main duties of the job
The candidate must exercise forward thinking and remain emotionally resilient, who can provide high-quality care that is both evidence based and patient-focused. In return, we are able to offer successful candidates an excellent experience in a very unique and challenging setting.
- Undertaking clinical measurements and tasks ensuring these are recorded accurately and appropriately in the clinical records. With appropriate training and competency these will include:
- ECGs
- BP/ Pulse, Rhythm/ Height, Weight, BMI
- NHS Health Checks
- Flu/ Pneumonia and other adult vaccinations
- Basic wound care using approved dressings from the wound formulary
- To act as a chaperone for other clinicians
- Have a basic understanding of long term conditions including diagnostic interventions, treatments and the principles of care and self-management

Brentford Group Practice is a well-established GP practice with a list size 8200, CQC rated as good with high QOF achievement. It is part of the NHS North West London commissioning area. The practice is rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following its last full inspection in 2017. The surgery is open during typical daytime hours Monday to Friday (around 8:00 to 18:30). It forms part of the NHS North West London area and is part of Brentworth PCN. Parking is available on-site, and the premises have good accessibility for patients, including those with disabilities.
We use System One. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Health Care Assistant for 22.5 hours a week over three days. Job responsibilities
- Undertaking clinical measurements and tasks ensuring these are recorded accurately and appropriately in the clinical records. With appropriate training and competency these will include:
- Provide safe, accessible, and high-quality patient-focused care
- ECG recording
- Diabetes foot check
- NHS Health Checks
- Urinalysis
- Flu/ Pneumonia and other adult vaccinations
- Act as chaperone where required
- Maintain appropriate stock levels
- Updating the patients medical records where appropriate
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- To undertake baseline observations including, blood pressure, weight, pulse and height measurement and calculate body mass index (BMI)
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the Infection, Prevention & Control Policy
- To demonstrate a sound knowledge of the principles of infection control, including monthly hand hygiene audits adhering to the highest standards when performing aseptic technique and complying with Infection, Prevention & Control Policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Certificate of Higher Education (preferred)
- HCA: 1 year (required)
- Care Certificate
- Experienced in the following:
- Health Checks
- Blood pressure, 24 hr ABPM and ECG
- Vaccinations and injections
- Simple wound care
Experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
- Experience in a Primary Care setting.
- One year of experience working in a GP practice as a Health Care Assistant.
