The Role of Academy Assistant Coach & Performance Analyst

The successful candidate will assist with the coaching of designated age group and be responsible for leading the delivery of performance analysis provision for designated age group to support player development. This role requires equal allocation of time to both coaching and performance analysis responsibilities and the coaching of Pre-Academy, Development Centres and other Academy age groups as and when required.

Main Accountabilities

Coaching

  • Deliver an elite level of coaching for your designated age group whilst working within the Club’s coaching philosophy and style of play, keeping detailed records of training sessions.
  • Assist planning and delivery of coaching to designated age group across training and games programme.
  • Make decisions in the best interest of player development in line with the Academy purpose and coaching philosophy that blends developing performance and potential to support long term development.
  • Be a part of age group inter-disciplinary team and work with Head Coach, Phase Lead coach and the Head of Academy Football Development on player progression, training and match opportunities.
  • Form positive relationships with players and motivate them towards achieving their potential, ensuring their well-being and holistic development.
  • Working closely with various Academy departments using an inter-disciplinary approach
  • Assist with the design and implementation of IDP’s for players within designated age group and provide feedback to players and their families in line with our IDP processes and timelines
  • Maintain up to date records of training sessions and game time on club systems as required by the Premier League Youth Development Rules.
  • Attend all relevant CPD events, contribute to the club style of play and ensure that Academy principles and training methodologies are delivered consistently and in line with Academy coaching philosophy.
  • Work with the Head of Academy Football Development and Assistant Head of Academy Football Development to develop self in line with Academy coach competency framework and development action plan.
  • Review players as requested by the recruitment team for potential Academy recruitment.
  • Help to ensure the Academy is continually achieving the standards required to retain its category status within the EPPP guidelines.
  • To coach within Pre-Academy and Development Centre sessions as directed by Head of Academy Football Development and Assistant Head of Academy Football Development
  • To ensure that any concerns you observe, or are raised with you in your role, are shared with the Safeguarding Team through appropriate channels.

Performance Analysis

  • To lead the analysis provision for your designated age group utilising analysis as a learning tool in an age-appropriate manner working in line with Academy analysis processes
  • Coordinate the filming of all training sessions, games and any other necessary sessions for your designated age group.
  • Code training and games for your designated age group
  • Code and provide each player with their individual clips from each game.
  • Share all video footage and coded events internally with staff & players via Hudl.
  • To lead the creation of analysis workshops for your age group preparing material and working with age group Head Coach to support delivery of workshops.
  • Assist with the Academy’s databasing processes to support alignment across Academy age groups, creating libraries of material to support learning and capturing of best practice for individual and team across games and training.
  • Work in collaboration with Academy coaching and analysis staff to efficiently deliver the Analysis Programme to the highest standard.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of pre-match, live and post-match analysis.
  • Coordinate the logging and tracking of relevant information for each individual player (game time, training attendance, and IDP tracking)

  • Experience using recording equipment (Camcorders, tripods, capture masts, etc.).
  • A dynamic, hardworking individual who is passionate about their work and the sport.
  • Displays a consistently high level of organisational skills. Effective at preparing, planning and completing any tasks given to a high standard.
  • A proactive personality who takes initiative, is open-minded, and willing to take on information and learn.
  • Having a positive, enthusiastic attitude alongside great communication skills to develop and maintain good relationships within the Analysis Department and wider Academy Staff.
  • Applies a high level of detail to all pieces of work produced, coupled with the ability to work under high pressure & meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours as required, involving work outside normal office hours, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
