The Education Department provides personalised support and structured intervention, including both 1:1 and group sessions targeted at young people who are at risk of not achieving their potential.

Main Purpose of Job
We are looking for personable and committed individuals who can work with young people with challenging backgrounds, providing personalised support, bespoke activity and focused mentoring. You must be able to build rapport with young people and believe that with the right tools and support, all young people will achieve their potential.

This role will support some of the following programmes:

  • Brighter Futures - weekly 1:1 sessions for children & young people in care, at the edge of care and their families.
  • Premier League Changing Directions & Turnaround Programmes – referrals from Schools and Youth Justice Services (YJS) who attend weekly 1:1 mentoring sessions.
  • Focus 30 – intervention to support secondary students struggling to manage their own behaviour in school.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring to young people.
  • Provide tailored, inclusive, high quality and engaging activities.
  • Take a flexible approach to all cases, demonstrating empathy & understanding.
  • Liaise with parents/guardians/local authority professionals where required.
  • Facilitate and encourage young people to continue on to further programmes.
  • Maintain accurate records for each project.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Ensure BFCCST safeguarding standards are always followed.
  • Regularly liaise with BFCCST Safeguarding team.
  • Ensure supporting documents and reporting are up to date.
  • Demonstrate a positive impact on the young people you work with.
  • Stay informed about safeguarding policies and best practices.
  • Participate in training sessions related to safeguarding.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate with other team members.
  • Support with any other bespoke education projects.

The Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Experience of delivering engaging sessions for young people (10-24yrs).
  • Experience of working with young people, forming strong, positive relationships.
  • Safeguarding Qualification & Emergency First Aid Certificate.
  • Current DBS certificate.
  • A good listener who understands the value of mentoring.
  • Organised and work with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and inclusivity.
  • Willingness to deliver sessions across various locations.

Desirable

  • L2 qualification in Mentoring or Youth Work.
  • UKCC Level 1/2 coaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
  • Experience of working in a pastoral role.
  • Good knowledge of the local area and demographics.
  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle.
