Job Description
Brent Council is looking for a political assistant to support the Liberal Democrat Group.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Group with organisation and administration (including attendance at Group Meetings).
- Work closely with the Group to research, evaluate and analyse issues of interest, relevance and importance to the Leader and Members of the Group.
- Act as the first point of contact and ensure effective communication between Group Members, the Party, the Council, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare press releases and handle media enquiries on behalf of the Leader and the Group; liaise with Members of Parliament and Officers of the Council.
- Engage in political research in Council matters.
- Assist with the composition and issuing of press releases.
- Attend Liberal Democrat Group meetings to provide information and advice to Council Members.
- Take minutes of internal meetings.
Qualifications
Ideal candidate will have experience of working in a political environment, a professional approach and agile organisational skills to deal with shifting priorities.
Demonstrate awareness of local government operations and financial, political, and legislative context.
Membership of the Liberal Democrat Party is desirable.
