Salary range: £30,717 – £32,070 (pro rata) per annum, inclusive of London weighting.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 21 hours per week (Part‑time contract) or 36 hours per week (Full‑time contract).

Brent Libraries serve a diverse and dynamic community across the borough, offering a wide range of library services in refurbished facilities. The Library & Outreach Assistant supports the delivery of high‑quality, customer‑focused services and plays a key role in engaging residents at the library floor and within the wider community.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a wide range of library enquiries and effectively signpost residents and customers to relevant council departments and external organisations.
  • Design and deliver engaging events and activities for children, adults and families, including class visits, children’s sessions and programmes for all age groups.
  • Promote the full range of library services through outreach initiatives and community engagement.
  • Maintain and enhance the library’s physical and digital collections, including community‑led stock.
  • Support services such as housebound provision and ensure all customers are aware of and can access the breadth of services available.
  • Work pro‑actively in the community, extending the reach of the library to new audiences.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for working in the library sector.
  • Confidence in promoting library services and delivering excellent customer service to a diverse range of users.
  • Front‑facing role; actively visible on the library floor with a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Capability to design, lead and deliver engaging events and activities, ensuring inclusivity and creativity.
  • Passion for books and reading, inspiring a love of reading among users.
  • Desirable experience in customer service and confidence in using ICT.
  • Experience with children and families is highly desirable.
  • Ability to contribute to promotional activities and events to increase library engagement.
  • Flexibility to work regular evenings and weekends is required.
