The Post

This is an exciting opportunity to join our creative policy team where we develop and implement polices that make a real difference to the lives of our residents. You will work in the corporate centre, contributing to policies, projects and strategies which deliver the strategic objectives of the council. As a Change and Improvement Officer (Policy), you will be part of a small team who work with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders, to both develop forward-looking policies and strategies, and support programme leads in delivering projects under the council\’s Embrace Change Portfolio. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, including senior officers, members, and partners such as the NHS and the voluntary and community sector.

You will play an active role in supporting the delivering Brent Council\’s priorities, working creatively and collaboratively with people within the department and across the council. In doing so, you will be expected to demonstrate Brent\’s values in the way you work with others and outcomes you deliver. Operating within a matrix management environment, you will have the opportunity to work under different line managers over time, giving you exposure to a variety of projects, and perspectives. You will be able to challenge yourself by thinking about the bigger picture and outside the box and problem solve

The Person

We are looking for someone who is curious, open-minded, and willing to try new approaches. You should enjoy working with colleagues across different teams and be able to produce clear written work to support projects and policies.

You will be a capable researcher, able to look for and share good practice examples from elsewhere to inform our work. An interest in social policy and an understanding of how local government works would be an advantage, as would an enthusiasm for improving public services.

The role also involves supporting and managing projects, helping to plan and track activities, coordinate input from colleagues and partners, and keep delivery on schedule.

You should be comfortable preparing presentations, collating information, and analysing both numbers and written material. We are looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas, communicate well with others, and work independently when needed, while keeping the team updated and involved.
