Location: Field-based – South of England

Join Brenntag, a global leader in chemicals and ingredients distribution, and help drive growth in our Beauty & Personal Care portfolio across the South of England. We are looking for a proactive, customer-focused External Account Manager with a positive attitude and strong commercial experience to develop and manage a portfolio of customers, deliver profitable growth, and strengthen Brenntag’s position in the market. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales professional who enjoys being in front of customers, building relationships, and converting opportunities into long-term partnerships.

Customer Management and Business Development

  • Promote Brenntag’s speciality Beauty & Personal Care product range and services to existing and prospective customers within your designated Southern territory.
  • Take the lead on customer management, lead generation and conversion of new business to deliver sustainable, profitable growth.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, developing an in-depth understanding of their business activities and identifying further products and solutions from Brenntag’s portfolio.
  • Build customer loyalty through frequent, high-quality engagement and a consultative, solutions-focused approach.

Sales Activity and Territory Planning

  • Conduct approximately 12–20 customer visits per month, ensuring structured, proactive coverage of your territory.
  • Attend face-to-face meetings in Leeds ideally once per month to align on performance, priorities and strategy.
  • Establish and maintain a visit/contact schedule that reflects account value, competitive risk and customer support requirements.
  • Manage accounts against set targets, including mandatory face-to-face sales quotas each month, ensuring momentum across all key opportunities.

CRM, Reporting and Follow-up

  • Accurately document all customer meetings and interactions, creating clear and actionable follow-up plans to progress opportunities and close sales.
  • Maintain the CRM database to a high standard, including:
  • Regularly updating contact details
  • Recording and completing customer visit notes
  • Capturing customer potential and opportunity data
  • Keeping opportunities up to date and raising sample tickets as required
  • Prepare and complete monthly reports for your sales area, providing insight into customer activity, market developments, and competitor behaviour.
  • Commercial, Pricing and Market Insight

    • Maintain customer pricing and update quotations using the relevant systems, communicating and negotiating pricing changes where needed.
    • Analyse sales performance trends, taking action to protect and recover lost or under-threat business.
    • Seek out, capture and report competitive intelligence to inform sales strategy, purchasing decisions and pricing tactics.

    Internal Collaboration and Teamwork

    • Liaise closely with Technical Sales Managers and Product Managers to maximise sales opportunities within Beauty & Personal Care and adjacent segments.
    • Arrange and attend joint customer visits with internal stakeholders to support account development and drive value-added solutions.
    • Proactively work with internal stakeholders to resolve customer queries and issues promptly and professionally.
    • Contribute to a collaborative team culture by supporting colleagues and providing cover where necessary.

    What You Bring

    • 5+ years’ experience in a customer-facing commercial or sales role, ideally within beauty, personal care, speciality chemicals, ingredients, or a related technical/solutions-based environment.
    • A proactive, customer-focused approach and a consistently positive attitude.
    • Proven ability to manage and grow accounts, with strong territory planning and organisational skills.
    • Confidence working with CRM systems and managing a structured sales pipeline from lead generation through to closing.
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage credibly at multiple levels within customer organisations.
    • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical, commercial and customer service teams.
