Construction Materials Technician - Cork (site based)
We are currently seeking a Construction Material Technician to join our team at Breedon Surfacing Solutions.
As a Construction Material Technician, you will be working close with our contract surfacing division & will be responsible for onsite testing of all our Bituminous product’s.

- To test and sample aggregate, bituminous and unbound and earthworks materials including material laying records, temperature checks & recording, compaction control testing with electrostatic density gauge, Rolling Straight edge testing, Surface Macrotexture testing (sandpatch), binder content and grading, both in the laboratory and on contracting sites/plant.
- To maintain a safe and tidy workspace and keep all equipment maintained
- To maintain quality standards by following Company and accrediting bodies quality procedures and protocol.
- To record sample details on test record sheets and electronic software programmes.
- To assist with the calibrating of all testing equipment.
- To prepare for inspections from independent accrediting bodies
- To undertake daily equipment checks
- To provide technical cover if required for other contracts within the Southern parts of Ireland.
- What we need from you…
Essential Criteria
- Educated to Leaving certificate standard (or equivalent)
- Experience of working in a team environment, providing information and support to colleagues
- Ability to be flexible in working hours, working night shifts or weekends if required
- Driving licence to enable the post holder to fulfil the duties of the role
Desirable Criteria
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of on-site testing, with particular regard to highway contracts and surfacing
- Have previous experience in sampling and testing of construction materials or transferable skills from other employment types (as full training will be provided)
- Have the awareness to work safely on a construction site or production depot
- Have a willingness to be flexible in your working pattern
- Have the physical ability to carry out sampling and handling of bulky materials
- Have the capacity to operate mechanical equipment such as Asphalt road coring drill
- Hold a full drivers licence & are capable to operate a small sized commercial van
- Enjoy interactions with internal customers, external contributors, and auditors
- Have a tolerance for and ability to handle the details and paperwork associated with the role
