Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Weighbridge Operative to operate the weighbridge efficiently and accurately, ensuring all incoming and outgoing vehicles are weighed, recorded, and processed in line with site procedures, legal regulations, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first point of contact for all site visitors, providing a professional and courteous welcome.
- Induct first-time drivers, ensuring they understand site rules and are provided with maps and relevant safety information.
- Check that all drivers meet the access requirements, including scanning MP Connect cards; guide non-compliant drivers through the appropriate process flow.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to health and safety protocols, including PPE usage, load sheeting, and engine shut-off.
- Communicate effectively with drivers to provide clear site instructions and maintain smooth traffic flow.
- Operate the weighbridge system to accurately record vehicle weights and materials, ensuring legal compliance.
- Issue uplift and delivery tickets and ensure all necessary information is recorded for invoicing purposes.
- Liaise with sales and distribution teams to report on product availability, delivery schedules, and vehicle issues.
- Plan and allocate daily deliveries, ensuring efficient and safe use of available fleet resources.
- Handle customer issues with empathy and escalate complaints to the Quarry Manager when necessary.
- Assist members of the public with any general site enquiries.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organisation, and professionalism of the weighbridge office environment.
- Perform routine weekly inspections of the weighbridge to ensure it is operating accurately and efficiently.
- Identify and report any faults, damage, or irregularities in compliance with health, safety, and operational standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
Essential:
- A solid understanding of customer service principles and operational processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with drivers, contractors, colleagues, and the public.
- Good computer literacy (including MS Word and Excel) and the ability to learn site systems such as weighbridge software and MP Connect.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in weighing, recording, and payment processing.
- A proactive approach to maintaining safety and compliance standards.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A collaborative and team-focused mindset, with the ability to work closely with other sites and commercial functions.
- The ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional in high-pressure or challenging situations.
- A self-starting, responsible, and dependable work ethic, with the ambition to learn and grow in the role.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., weighbridge, logistics, waste).
