This role is responsible for the safe and efficient planning, coordination, and delivery of essential site maintenance activities that support reliable cement production. You will lead the Support Team day‑to‑day, overseeing preheater cleaning and managing material build‑up using Cardox, high‑pressure jetting, low‑pressure water systems, and continuous process monitoring. You’ll also own key systems including air blasters, firing pipes, jetting equipment, and Cardox operations, ensuring all assets are maintained and work is delivered safely with minimal production impact.
You will provide operational leadership across safety‑critical activities, including supervising and auditing confined space work and responding to out‑of‑hours process issues or blockages. The role also supports emergency preparedness by training and developing the Emergency Response Team through structured drills and exercises.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise weekly air blaster maintenance, ensuring inspections, defect identification, and corrective actions are completed to standard.
- Lead and support the Emergency Response Team, ensuring readiness, competence, and compliance with emergency and environmental procedures.
- Plan and deliver emergency response drills and training to maintain team preparedness.
- Ensure all site spill kits are maintained, inspected, and fit for purpose.
- Act as Defibrillator Champion, ensuring equipment is maintained, accessible, and supported by workforce awareness and training.
- Oversee firing pipe refurbishment, including planning, contractor coordination, inspections, refractory installation, and safe return to service.
- Lead and develop the Support Team, ensuring safe and effective preheater cleaning and process support activities using Cardox, HP jetting, and LP water systems.
- Provide out of hours support for process issues and blockages to maintain production continuity.
- Provide cover for the Yard Supervisor, ensuring safe yard operations, waste management, and drainage upkeep.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 4 Years/proven cement industry experience
- A mechanical Engineering background, with practical experience working on or alongside heavy industrial plant and equipment
- Hands-on experience producing and working to risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work systems, including LOTOTO and isolations
- Experience identifying and escalating mechanical defects before failure
- Advanced First aid and Rescue Knowledge (Advantageous)
- SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
- Preheater and process Knowledge.
- Strong safety, risk, and compliance knowledge
- Mechanical competence in heavy plant environments
